RugBuddy under-rug heater review
RugBuddy has been known to us as a company for some time and so we were thrilled when the company owner dropped us a line to ask if we’d like to give one of his RugBuddies a go!
No – we are not connected to the company, despite the name… but we do love a bit of warmth in the cold winter months up our little Spanish mountain. It gets bitterly cold up here, especially from December, and it can be difficult to keep ourselves warm without rocketing our electricity bills.
This is where the RugBuddy is brilliant! It sits underneath your rug or mat and keeps your tootsies nice and warm. We were unsure initially, because we have tiled floors laid on top of concrete, but alongside the underlay that came with the RugBuddy, we are thrilled to say that this was simply not an issue. It simply lays underneath your existing favourite rug and does its job… straight out of the box.
If however, you have hard or tiled floors (like us) then do purchase the extra underlay also – it will ensure that the RugBuddy performs at its best. It’s a little extra cost on top but well worth it. Obviously you won’t need this on carpeted flooring.
RugBuddy at SpainBuddy
To say that there could have been a battle when we start using it fulltime is an understatement.
Not only do we have Alan and I fighting for a spot to fit our feet on the mat, but while we were testing it, our sole remaining dog (Guido) also discovered the benefits of a snuggly warm place to have a snooze!
That’s the benefit of the RugBuddy though – it can be moved around very easily as you move around the house.
To be fair, however, Alan and Guido tend to be fairly warm souls anyway. It is me who has issues with keeping my extremeties warm.
I suffer with Raynauds Disease and winter temperatures are almost unbearable. My fingers and toes are affected and I experience extreme pain when it is cold. I have found a fix for my fingers (a heated mousepad on my desk has revolutionised my working winter days) and now it seems that I have found a fix for my toes too! No more Raynauds pain!
Sorry to Alan and Guido – but if I’m not complaining and crying constantly for a few months each year, their lives will be much easier to bear.

Easy to pick up and move
During the day it will be laid underneath my office desk, but in the evenings it will be placed in front of the sofa and is big enough for we humans, with a large area spare for our Guido to stretch out too.
We are also pondering getting an electric timer to use. Then we could place it at the bedside so it is nice and toasty for when our alarm goes off and we get out of bed in the mornings.
Or – we may just by a couple more and dot them around the house.
For now, it is rolled up and put away… ready for when the temperature drops properly. But just testing it for a few days was sheer heaven. It doesn’t just keep your feet warm, it heats the area. The bigger the RugBuddy, the larger the heating area. It doesn’t just heat your toes too. We all learned at school that heat rises, and we experienced that with RugBuddy too.
Cost effective
We not only live up a mountain (we are at the same height as Snowdon) but our home is more than 400 years old. This is great in the summer months because we never really get overheated indoors. Conversely, however, we really do struggle during the winter.
With the age of our home, its build and its gaps here there and everywhere… it would cost us a fortune to heat! So we’ve not bothered with central heating, and simply tend to focus any heating solutions on wherever we are at the time. The RugBuddy is cost-effective with just 90 to 600 Watts output. So no scary electric bills headed our way! It’s like having underfloor heating without having to dig up the foundations.
RugBuddy now has a distribution point in the EU!
Customers in the United Kingdom have been able to order the RugBuddy easily for some time. However, previously, customers in the EU had to run the risk of delays and extra costs of having their RugBuddy sent from the UK. This is no longer an issue, because RugBuddy has a European distribution centre – woot!
It is located in the Netherlands, so English speakers in the EU can now order confidently, without worrying about import duty.
How to get your RugBuddy
It is very easy to get a RugBuddy of your own. Simply visit the website below and order online. Ours took just a few days to arrive. If your floors are tiled, we recommend getting the underlay too.
Do ensure that your rug overlaps the RugBuddy by a couple of inches in each direction to avoid any slippage. Plug it in and you’re good to go! It starts heating immediately and you’ll be feeling the benefits in your tootsies within a minute or so.
