Palma fire station to be repurposed
The Mayor of Palma, Mateo Isern, and the president of the Association of Industrialists of Mallorca (ASIMA) Miguel Bordoy, signed yesterday (May 19 2015) the act of declaration of intent in which Palma City Council agrees to start work on the change of use for the old fire station located in Son Castelló Industrial Estate – repurposing for cultural benefit.

Also in attendance were the Deputy for Planning and Housing, Jesús Valls, the director of ASIMA, Alejandro Saenz de San Pedro, and other representatives of the industry association.
Alejandro Saenz de San Pedro announced: “With this agreement we return to the original spirit of the plot – these facilities were serving employers and workers and the citizens of Palma.”
The business association explained that the wide space of the plot could favor the coexistence of different cultural activities and include a space that introduces the history of industrial development in Mallorca, thematic exhibitions, theater, painting, craft workshops school catering and other cultural activities.
After the signing, Jesús Valls added: “We have now begun the necessary procedures to move from a specific planning amendment towards final approval of the change of use.”
Finally Alejandro Saenz indicated: “This plot is iconic enough to preserve it, so that we would continue with the name of the former fire station.”
