Written by world traveler, William Bengtsson, a new book shares the darker side of Costa del Sol, incorporating real-life tales into his thriller.
While living in southern Spain and running a bar, author William Bengtsson (pen name of Bill Widell) was an eager listener to many intriguing stories, which together with the colorful characters he came across, influenced him to write the thriller, “The Costa.”
Positioned as an action filled book, “The Costa” by William Bengtsson contains more truth than residents of Costa del Sol would like to believe. The 200,000 foreign homeowners on the Spanish coast may be surprised by the truth in regards to large-scale criminal activity.
“My book is a fast passed, non-stop excitement thriller that unravels crime and corruption hiding underneath the disguise of luxury and wealth,” explained Bengtsson.
What’s the message?
After a drunken driver tragically takes his wife’s life, ex-soldier and troubleshooter Bric Carlson escapes to Marbella on the beautiful Costa del Sol in Spain. Beginning his new life as a bar owner, he falls foul of London mobster Honey Robinson’s efforts to control the cocaine trade on the Costa. Bric soon finds himself in the center of a power struggle between Robinson and a rival Moroccan gang, an influential tycoon and a colorful police detective from Gibraltar. Bric is sucked into a world of drugs, violence, corruption, and murder while a mysterious assassin lurks in the shadows. His past comes back to haunt him as he struggles for survival, but Bric is determined not to give in to kidnapping and intimidation, even at the risk of losing the woman he loves. Fighting back against the drug traffickers and the corrupt police protecting them, Bric recruits the support of an unlikely group from both sides of the law.
The book contains a twisting plot as well as a violent and unexpected ending. The promoters say that this fiction novel will have tourists questioning their next trip to the coast of Spain.
