Gifts for the needy in Torremolinos
Torremolinos Ayuntamiento has released the super results of their grand campaign for the collection of food, games and toys and gifts for the needy in Torremolinos.
The Great Solidarity Campaign in Torremolinos has raised 5,000 kilos of food and 2,000 toys which has gone to benefit 678 families and 430 children in the municipality. 15 events in all comprised the Great Solidarity Campaign and has been hailed a success by the town hall.
The department of Social Welfare in Torremolinos coordinated a total of fifteen sports, cultural and leisure activities during the holiday period. Thanks to the kindness of citizens, a total of 5,000 kilos of nonperishable food and 2,000 toys were collected.
Associations including Cáritas Parroquiales de Torremolinos, Comedor Social Emaús Obra de Amor, Asociación Evangélica de Agua Viva, Cruz Roja, Club de los Leones and the Asociación Benéfica Arte Contra el Hambre were in charge of distributing this fund, which has benefitted many families and especially the children.
The Councillor for Social Welfare, Jesus Diaz, wanted to thank “all artists, associations, sports clubs, volunteers, businesses and all the neighbors who have gathered this great collection of toys and food for the needy of the town.” He added additional thanks to sponsors and businesses such as Astosam, the Carrefour in Torremolinos, businessman Manuel Molina and Camping Torremolinos.
‘Extreme Day’ was the event that kicked the campaign off, with free admission with the contribution of a toy. This event was followed by the match between the basketball club I.F. Clínicas Rincón y el vasco Zornotza Saskibaloi Taldea. Football was the game between C.D. Zenit and Marbella United, plus the town hall met ‘Torremolinos Youth’ and ‘Los Barrios de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios’.
In addition, the Municipal Band of Torremolinos gave a concert at the Carrefour de El Pinillo while Benyamina and San Miguel school held a party and a picnic, respectively, to collect toys and food. The radio has wanted to be supportive through ‘Qué Pechá de Tarde’ program. The riding club ‘El Ranchito’ also joined in with charity events. On December 26, the big event to collect toys and food, ‘Toy Run’, where a local club, Komando Amimoto, made a trek with Father Christmas through the center of town and the association of Torremolinos artists (APMACT) offered shows in the Plaza de la Nogalera. The event was broadcast on TV and radio.
On the last day of the year, 650 people in their best costumes participated in the Carrera San Silvestre, while on Saturday January 2 the Charity Tournament of Kings ‘Pastelería Castillo’ was held.
Finally, on Sunday January 3, The three kings landed on the beach of the Carihuela thanks to the Rowing Association and Pala-Carihuela Torremolinos. After that, chocolate and rosquillos were excahnaged for toys. Athena Association of Artisans and Craftsmen of Torremolinos helped with the cause. On 5, 6, 7 and 8 December in the Plaza de Andalucia, people collected food and on 2, 3 and 4 January, toys.
