Friends raise more than €1k for Samaritans
In June this year a new social and fundraising group was formed called the Friends of the Samaritans in Spain (run by Kim Taylor of Los Montesinos). They meet regularly with the aim of raising money and awareness for the very busy charity Samaritans in Spain.
The charity’s telephone help line is now FREE for callers so it has become even more important than ever to raise extra funds to pay for this emotional support service in English which is available 24/7 – 365 days a year on 900 525 100.
The Friends first major event was a fun-day held in Bar Dominos, Torrevieja, on Saturday October 10. It was a fantastic sucess raising an amazing 1057.16€ in total, which was presented by Kim here in the photo at the Samaritans Drop-In Centre and Charity Shop at Punta Marina shopping mall. Samaritans President Eddie Purcell said it was “an amazing effort” and expressed huge gratitude to all involved.
Kim would also like personally to thank JoJo, Norma Sandy, Sally Helena for helping on the day and Saranne from Dominos bar for hosting the event. There were lots of stalls and fun things happening thoughout the day. Willing participants Jo, Tracey, Jacquie, Harvey and Bethany all were sponsored to sit in a bath of baked beans. Kevin and Martin had their heads shaved. They were all so very brave!
The Friends group meets every Monday at Bar Spangles in Los Montesinos, who support them by raising money at the weekly bingo starting at 1.30 pm. All are welcome and if you would like to join the group Kim would be very happy to see you there, or you can email her at friends@samaritansinspain.com
The Friends of Samaritans in Spain have also set up their own new Facebook page which has lots of photos of the funday and they will announce future events there soon.
