More than 250 people were thrilled as F.A.C.E. market raises more than €880. These visitors were at the F.A.C.E. (Fundraising in Arboleas, Caring for Everyone) Summer Night Market, which was held at the Bar Kubatin In Arboleas on Friday Evening June 26.
Almost 30 stalls were on offer to visitors, selling everything from boiled sweets to books and bedding. Angels Nursing Group and M.A.C.S. (Mojacar Area Cancer Support) also had stalls where people were on hand to answer questions about the sterling service they both provide. There was also a tombola and a raffle, operated by F.A.C.E.
Hungry and thirsty visitors were well catered for by the staff at the Hostel Meson, while they enjoyed entertainment from Smooth FMs Ray Peters, as well as a demonstration of line dancing set to Country and Western Music using tunes such as Cotton Eyed Joe and Country Roads… performed ably by “Carrie’s Dusty Boots”.
Arboleas’ deputy mayor, Roger Done, was on hand to officially open the market.
The night markets are always popular locally, and as always the main aim was to raise money for the various charities that F.A.C.E. supports. This event was no different, with more than €880 being raised. However in addition to this money F.A.C.E. was presented with €80 from the Deputy Mayor of Arboleas, Roger Done, and his wife Sylvia. A further €500 was donated by Gary Bastin of The Almeria Community Forum.
The Almeria Community Forum was only launched recently (2015) and is uniquely run in that the monies raised from the many advertisers (including Spain Buddy and Gandy-Draper) are all donated to local causes. This cheque for €500 was the first from the new forum, and F.A.C.E. was unanimously chosen by forum members because of the existing support it already provides local charities with. Main aim accomplished, it was not all about fundraising. Money was also presented to deserving local causes. Grupo Scout 106 del Saliente in Albox have had a miserable few years due to a fire and break ins. F.A.C.E. have tried to assist them through this run of bad luck but this year F.A.C.E. decided to support the scouts in some of their more pleasurable activities. €700 was presented to the scouts towards the purchase of an industrial oven, so that when the scouts (and there are almost 100 of them, both English and Spanish children of various age groups) go on their camping holidays or hold other events, they will be able to cook up some hot food for everyone at the same time.
Another donation made on the night was to “Little Owls”, another group which F.A.C.E. has supported for a number of years. As part of F.A.C.E.’s continued commitment to this group the “LIttle Owls” were presented with a lighweight wheelchair, a zimmer frame and some replacement cushions for wheelchairs where the cushions have become worn out.
Finally on the evening F.A.C.E made a promise to Elaine Brown, the president of M.A.C.S. (Mojacar Area Cancer Support) to provide a new television for the recently opened M.A.C.S Meeting Centre in Huercal Overa.
The final event of the evening was the grand draw. Alice Bradbury of Aljambra nabbed the first prize, a grocery hamper and shopping trolley provided by Coviran of Arboleas. Many other prizes were generously donated by many businesses throughout the Arboleas/Albox area, and a full list of these suppliers and the winners of these prizes will soon be available on the F.A.C.E. Facebook Page and on the F.A.C.E. website at www.face-charity.com
