Cigarette prices in Spain 2024 are provided on this page for your ease and reference. It also includes prices for cigars and rolling tobacco. More segments will be added soon.

It covers the official Tabac shops and cigarette machines in Spain that are government controlled,. Please note that not all brands are sold in all shops.

These figures cover mainland Spain (mainland) and the Balearics. At this time we don’t have the figures for the Canary Islands. They are not easy to find and so you are better off visiting a local forum or Facebook Group for current information. It’s a question often asked, so you should be able to find some up to date information anyway. If not – you can always ask the question yourself!

Cigarette prices in Spain

How do cigarette prices in Spain work?

The prices are set by the Spanish government and these are the official prices across the country. This ensures that no matter where you are in Spain, the prices remain the same.

There is a difference in the Canary Islands because they are on a different (lower) tax level. We do not include prices for those on this page but you can safely assume that they are even cheaper.

How old do I have to be to buy tobacco products in Spain?

You have to be 18 years old to buy tobacco products in Spain. This is the law. You may be asked to provide photo ID to prove your age.

We have heard of instances in some areas of Spain where people are asked for photo ID to prove their address. This information is purely anecdotal but seems to be when people purchase a large quantity of tobacco products that take them over their limit. What the Estanco does with this information is unknown. We’ve not experienced it ourselves, but we’ve lived in Spain since 2006 and have always got to know our Estanco staff personally.

How many cigarettes can I take to the UK from Spain?

Since Brexit, there are limits on how many cigarettes or other tobacco products that you can take from Spain into the UK.

You can now only bring in one of the following (per adult):

  • 200 cigarettes
  • 100 cigarillos
  • 50 cigars
  • 250g tobacco
  • 200 sticks of tobacco for electronic heated tobacco devices

You can split this allowance between tobacco types so, for example, you could bring in 100 cigarettes and 125g of rolling tobacco (both of which are half of your allowance).

If you go over the allowance, you MUST declare this when you go through Customs and you will be liable to pay tax on EVERYTHING you have brought… not just the amount over your limit.

So how much is that tax then?

You can find the costs for that on the official UK Government website HERE. Needless to say, this can then work out even more expensive than if you had simply bought them at home. It’s not worth the risk.
