This morning I sat at my computer with a cup of tea as normal, and opened up my Facebook account to see if there was anything happening in the world that wasn’t depressing. Thankfully there was!
Two friends had posted a link on my wall to a video that I am sure will make you smile!
Oh what joy – this year, John Lewis has released an advertisement called “Buster The Boxer”. Yes, you can imagine – me being an emotional wreck when it comes to soppy adverts… and especially soppy adverts with dogs in… … … I was in bits. Here is the video for you.
The video tells the story of a little girl called Bridget who loves to bounce on her bed. When her mum and dad buy her a trampoline for Christmas… we soon see that she’s not the only one who loves a bounce.
“Buster” is actually called “Biff” and is described by people that know him as a very gentle dog and a good representation of his breed. He’s certainly a bouncy boy and was so very well behaved for his starring role in the video.
But this brings us onto something quite important that we’d like to share with you. We’d like to raise some awareness for a group of people that I have recently got to know. Boxer Friends Spain.
About Boxer Friends Spain
Originally, Boxer Friends Spain was started by a lady called Rocio who has been rescuing these lovely dogs since moving to Spain back in the 1980s. She was appalled by the number of homeless and neglected boxers in this country and chose to do something proactive. Special mention must be given to by Lesley, Tracey, Tracy, Julie, Lynsey and Alison who have all given their time free of charge to help these gorgeous boys and girls to find forever homes. They all have experience of working with boxers and rescue organisations in the UK, so have the benefit of great relationships there and have therefore been able to home many dogs! In 2015 they were able to rehome a whopping 60 Boxer dogs in Spain and the UK!!!
Although a small group of volunteers, their success has been phenomenal – and they would love to do more. They are entirely self-funded and rely massively on the kind donations of Boxer lovers who appreciate the fantastic results they achieve.
There are a number of ways you can get involved and get to chat to likeminded Boxer fans
- Boxer Friends Spain website
- Boxer Friends Spain Facebook Page
- Boxer Friends Spain Auction Page
- Boxer Friends Spain – Dogs available for rehoming Facebook Page
Of course donations are always welcomed – and you can do that by clicking the Donate Button on the right hand side of their website. Every little helps of course – -and all goes towards helping these lads and lasses find new homes.
Of course we know there are also many of you that would love to give a Boxer a forever home – and you can! To register initial interest… go to the Adopt page on the website and fill our your details. The team will then get in touch.
Boxer Friends Spain Success Stories
We could write for hours about the many success stories – but today we shall draw your attention to just one – Tara – whose Mummy has a connection to John Lewis herself.
Julia Lambrou works at the John Lewis Distribution Centre in Northampton, England. She has been around boxers all her life because family members owned them and until recently had been a proud Mummy to Bailey who is now three years old.
But Julia and Bailey’s lives weren’t quite complete. Something vital was missing. Julia was keen to find a companion for Bailey, but was also adamant that the new companion should be a Boxer rescue. In July this year, Julia was thrilled to hear about a Boxer Puppy called Tara. In no time at all, Tara’s four paws were scampering around Julia’s home and she was busy getting to know Big Boxer Brother Bailey.
The two new companions get on famously… sleeping together and enjoying a good old runaround on the beach. Tara has settled in extremely well and finally their lives are complete.
Without Boxer Friends Spain, Tara may well not have found such a wonderful new home and wonderful Mummy and big brother – and it is success stories such as this one that makes all the work these ladies do worthwhile.
