September marks the start of Autumn 2018 events in Palma de Mallorca when the city comes alive with a diverse range of cultural, sporting and gastronomic events, making it an ideal time for a short break from the UK. Cultural and gastronomic events in Palma de Mallorca
On 22 September Palma celebrates La Nit d’Art, Mallorca’s premier art event marking the beginning of the art season in the city. Around 15,000 visitors will descend on the city to explore and discover some of the most exciting exhibitions, performances, video-installations and urban installations in a mix of traditional art venues such as cafes, private apartments, studios, balconies and facades of historic buildings. www.nitdelartartpalma.com
From 5 October to 3 November, Palma will host the Festival Música Mallorca; a festival offering a series of classical music concerts in a number of spectacular venues across the city including the Palma Auditorium and the Palma cathedral. Events include Viva l’Opera with Kremena Dilcheva and Jose Manuel Sanchez on 13 October; an evening dedicated to church music performed by the Munich Opera on 27 October in the Sant Francesc convent, and a recital of chamber music with music of the ‘Belle Époque’ performed on the flute and the piano on 28 October in the Palma auditorium. www.musicamallorca.com
From 25 to 31 October Palma will host the 7th edition of the Mallorca International Film Festival. For six days, the Mallorca International Film Festival showcases feature films, short films, documentaries, and music videos made in the Balearic Islands. This year, the festival will feature networking events, screenings, panel discussions, and workshops, open to individuals from the film industry, as well as the general public interested in arts, film and culture. www.evolutionfilmfestival.com
From 15 to 19 November, Palma will welcome the 13th edition of TaPalma, a celebration of contemporary and traditional tapas made in the city. Restaurants across the city offer specially created tapas for around €2, and every year a judging panel selects the best tapas and chef in the city. The event features nine tapas routes including: Santa Catalina, Paseo Maritimo, Central Palma, Blanquerna, Genova, Portixol, Palma Beach, Mercado de San Juan, and Marratxi. www.visitpalma.com
Sporting & wellness events in Palma de Mallorca
The Santander Triathlon Series taking place on 2 September is the first sporting event of the autumn season at the Port of Palma including three course levels; the Supersprint (350m Swim, 10km cycle, 2.5km run), the Sprint (750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run), the Olimpico (1,500m swim, 40km cycle, 10km run). On 14 October, Palma will welcome back the Mallorca Marathon which offers a 10k, a half marathon and a full length marathon. The race starts by the sea on the Passeig Marítim (seafront promenade), opposite the Palma cathedral and offers one of Europe’s most attractive running routes.
