So? Are you busy on Sunday? If not, and you live in Almeria or fancy a day out there… please have a read of the following.

The Doghouse in Huercal Overa suffered terrible damage and numerous animal deaths during storms in February this year. We spoke to Paul Tighe at the Doghouse, who is obviously devastated, but our community has been getting behind him to help in any way they can.

The Doghouse currently cares for 58 dogs, including puppies. You can see many of them on the Doghouse website. There are also some on the Doghouse Facebook page. They are all looking for homes.

A free labour day was planned on April 12 for people to help get the kennels up to scratch but because of bad weather it was shifted out to this coming Sunday, April 19.

The shelter desperately needs volunteers to help erect dog kennels and carry out a general clean up on Sunday. Recently, more than €1,000 was raised and has been used to purchase blocks and building materials but it all needs to be used. Can you help?

If you do not have transport, there are two pick up points so you can head to those or join the convoy. Pick up one: Día car park (10am) on the road between Albox and Arboleas. Pick up two: Bar Cielos in La Alfoquia (10.15am). Lifts can be arranged if you contact Annie via the telephone number below.

There will be free beer and wine at the end of the work day for the volunteers.
