Apartamento Perdiz: a review
Apartamento Perdiz is a beautiful and modern holiday rental in the coastal resort of Mar de Pulpi in Almería.
Recently, Alan and I went on a road trip for his birthday. During the planning stages, Andrea Partridge, who owns the apartment with her husband Paul, offered us a long weekend at her super apartment in the peaceful resort of Mar de Pulpí, which is right on the border of Almería and Murcia.
I had visited Apartamento Perdiz previously with the owner and another friend, so I knew that Alan was in for a treat. It was the perfect stop for us after a rather long drive down from Peñiscola but it actually provided even more than we expected at the time.
I already knew that the apartment was immaculate but what we didn’t expect was how peaceful and refreshing a stay this would be – especially because it was right at the start of the Spanish school holidays.
Apartamento Perdiz – inside
When you first enter the property, you are greeted by a beautifully decorated open-plan lounge-kitchen-diner. Everything was spotlessly clean and gleaming. We had a couple of pressies waiting for us that aren’t usually included, but Andrea always supplies complimentary cava, water, cold drinks, Barra (Spanish word for “baguette”), oil, vinegar, tea, coffee, salt and more besides! You can easily come in, dump your bags and chill out for a while before heading to the nearby supermarket or restaurants.
The kitchen
The kitchen itself has absolutely everything you could need for your stay – right down to mixing bowls and bottle stoppers for leftover wine (does that even exist?). Andrea challenged us to find something missing that could be useful for future guests. We struggled because everything was there already! The only thing we spotted missing was a garlic press. One message to Andrea and she had one purchased ready to pop down for the next guests to use.
The fridge-freezer was large – plenty of room for all those fabulous fresh veggies and bottles of plonk. It would easily fit food for a week or more.
There is a full-size ceramic hob and oven, a microwave and a toaster. Oh and a coffee machine plus a kettle. They even supply the filters for the coffee machine!
There are cleaning products (including washing up liquid) under the sink. I really can’t stress enough how much this apartment has!
In a side room is a washer and a dryer plus a drying rack – so you don’t need to lug all your laundry home again after your stay.
Living / Dining area
The inside dining table would easily seat four to six people and is nicely dressed.
There is air-con, a large TV (with various plugins such as an Amazon Firestick), lots of board games and jigsaws, DVDs and books. Loads to keep you entertained if you want to hide away from the sunshine. The large sofa is perfect for stretching out on – and very easy to doze off on!
Bathroom and bedrooms
There’s a roomy shower plus a sink between the two bedrooms and a separate toilet. Everything was gleamingly clean.
One bedroom has a large double bed and the other has two singles. All are extremely comfortable, promising a decent night’s sleep. The wardrobes are large and obviously come with hangers. There are also blackout shutters if you prefer to sleep in the dark.
Wifi, parking and accessibility
Those of you with pushchairs, prams and wheelchairs will be able to easily access the property and the doors are large enough to get through easily.
There is free wifi at the property and also free parking (above and below ground). We would recommend a car for your stay – but only if you need to explore further afield. You could easily spend your holiday here after an airport dropoff… and not need to drive anywhere else – perfect for those who want to completely decompress and leave all the home/work/school stuff behind.
Apartamento Perdiz – outside
We didn’t venture round to one of the two communal swimming pools or the jacuzzi (although the pool area in front of the apartment looked fabulous) – we stayed on the private terrace. It is nicely landscaped with conifers around the edges, a tiled terrace area, a gravelled section with an olive tree plus the newest addition, a banana tree. It is worth mentioning that the pools are open all year round too!
There is a table plus four chairs for outdoor dining plus a couple of comfy sunbeds.
Sun worshippers will love the terrace in the mornings, it’s baking hot! Those of us that prefer things a little cooler loved the terrace in the afternoons and evenings. We sat happily there for hours, putting the world to rights over some cava and snacks.
Peace and quiet is key here. We were really surprised not to hear kiddies yelling or drunken revellers at night – it was a true haven. That may be different during August holidays of course – but you’ll still be able to kick back and relax.
Amenities and features
Apartamento Perdiz really does cater for everyone. You can tell that Andrea is a parent because families are definitely cared for here.
Andrea told us, “I know what I want from accommodation when we go away as a family. There are always things that we wished we’d brought along. We want all of our guests to want for nothing and we think we’ve got it right.” Yes Andrea – you really have!
The local area
There is a commercial centre with a Coviran supermarket (it is closed for a couple of hours in the afternoon – I think 3:30pm until 6pm so do check) and various bars/restaurants, just a 10 minute gentle amble from the apartment. There are also several blue flag beaches close by.
Head to the Chiringuito on the sand itself (just in front of the Commercial Centre). It’s a great place for seafood. They don’t do tapas there now, only full plates… but having eaten here previously myself I can heartily recommend it. We had the large seafood platter which was amazing. Oh and their freshly squeezed orange juice is great too! The staff are friendly and although we only communicated in Spanish ourselves, we did hear some of them speaking fluently in English – so nothing will get lost in translation.
If you want the hustle and bustle of a truly Spanish working town, then Águilas is only a 10 minute drive away. There you will find several larger supermarkets plus anything else you may need. There’s a lovely promenade for a stroll along the seafront there too.
We hear that visiting the “Geode” at Pulpí is worth the short drive, but we can’t comment personally as we haven’t visited that yet.
Want more ideas of things to do? Apartamento Perdiz has a bulging folder of information about the local area and things you can do. It’s on the bookshelf to the left of the telly.

No money exchanged hands for this review. However, we were treated to our stay here as a birthday present for Alan. Regardless of that – we feel that the apartment represents excellent value for money. Do book yourselves in – you won’t be disappointed!
