Channel 4’s “A Place in the Sun” visited Albox and popped into the Almanzora Group of Friends library while there.
The show’s presenter, Ben, popped into the Library and Information Centre of the Almanzora Group of Friends to find out more about Coffee Spanglish – the weekly Intercambio language exchange event run by the group in conjunction with Albox Ayuntamiento.
Bonnie and Jonathan (to the left of the photo) were looking at properties around Albox and were keen to learn more about integrating into the Spanish community and learning the language. Presenter Ben (in the Centre of the photo) was delighted to find on our library shelves an introduction to Spain published by ‘A Place in the Sun’. Bonnie and Jonathan were gratified to find that there is a support mechanism waiting for them if they do decide to settle here and were keen to become members.
Shelagh Copeland (President) and Chris Hurley (Centre Manager) – on the right of the photo – answered all their questions and told them there was a welcome waiting for them if and when they return.
About the Almanzora Group of Friends
The Almanzora Group of Friends was originally started in 1998 by a small group of ex-patriates as a means of sharing information and giving advice. It now also has a library with over 5,000 items for loan and organises interesting and original trips, as well as producing a monthly newsletter, and holding a quiz on the first Monday of the month at Maloans, Albox.
It also organises (in conjunction with the Albox Ayuntamiento) Coffee Spanglish – a weekly meeting of English and Spanish people who want to practice their language skills and integrate with their English/Spanish neighbours.
The Library and Information Centre is based at 44, Avenida Lepanto, Albox and is open from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
