Netflix launching in Spain
With Netflix launching in Spain on October 20 2015, it brings a host of great television to many more homes. Portugal gets it on October 21 and Italy on October 22.
The cost per month to access the streaming service is just €8 per month and enables Spain, Portugal and Italy to join the more than 50 markets already enjoying the service. Netflix has announced that it plans to have the service available in more than 200 countries by the end of 2016.
Netflix provides access to thousands of movies and television series past and present but has also made a name for itself with Netflix Originals, television series produced by the company itself. One of the great things about Netflix Originals is that television series are launched all at once, so you can binge-watch your favourites instead of waiting a week for each new episode to appear. With this in mind, what kind of treats are in store? Here are just a couple of our favourites.
House of Cards
This superb series sees Kevin Spacey and Robin Penn embroiled in the many machinations of The White House. Kevin Spacey is ruthless Congressman Frank Underwood who will stop at nothing to conquer Washington D.C. in this Emmy winning political drama. Robin Penn plays his equally ruthless wife. Make sure you watch this excellent series with subtitles. Filmed in Norway, the programme tells the story of ex-gangster Frank Tagliano who, after testifying against the Mafia, enters witness protection and moves to Norway. More information
The true story of Colombia’s infamously violent and powerful drug cartels, and specifically Pablo Escobar, fuels this gritty gangster drama series. Again, you will need subtitles if your Spanish isn’t great. Although we spotted a number of errors in the subtitled translations, none of them detracted from the story and were fairly minor. That was just a small selection of the super programmes available on Netflix Originals – there are many more including Borgia, Hemlock Grove, Marco Polo, Daredevil, Orange is The New Black, Sense8, Virunga and What Happened Miss Simone.
