When did you move to Spain, and where from?
Have moved back and forwards from Scotland to Spain since I was about 21.
The last fifteen years in Madrid.

Who came with you?
Spanish hubbie, cats Patsy and Pepe, (now deceased). Aaaawww!!!

Where in Spain do you live now?
Alcalá de Henares, putas, curas y militares. Oh, and World Heritage Site.

How are you with speaking Spanish?
Fine. I used to be a lecturer in Spanish. (That’s “fine” as in I don’t really care about improving. I’d rather improve my English writing skills ….).

If you could change one thing about Spain… what would that be?
That it would get with the programme, for feck’s sake.

What is the best thing about living in Spain?
Having something to blog about. Okay, if I MUST say something nice, the folk and the sun and the food. El vino Rueda.

What is your favourite Spanish dish?
Fabes con almejes from Asturias. Followed by arroz con leche.

What is the predominant nationality of your friends in Spain?
Spanish. But loads of lovely expats on FB too!

If you won the Euromilliones – would you still live where you currently are?
No. I’d live in the US and have a wee holiday home in Glasgow and another one in Andalucía.

If a movie was made about your life – who would play you?
Gwyneth Paltrow. I´m sure she could do the accent and “get” the whole Spanish thing, what with her love affair with Talavera de la Reina.

If you had to describe yourself as a sandwich filling… what would you be?
Fried egg (soft yolk).

Right – now is the chance to tell us all about your business/website/blog if you have one (or more of course). Go for your life!
This is what I’m doing. Coming to the conclusion of a “novel” set in Spain.
It might actually be a novel or it might not fit any acceptable shape of one, I don’t really know.  Blogging, which I adore, and with linguist husband, about to move into Spanish language consultation. Looking for freelance writing (hey, paid!) and body-swerving English conversation classes. Some translation, but would like to do literary stuff. That’s me done!

It is a hotseat – burn, baby burn – but I can´t deny that it´s all true! To survive in Spain you need a sense of humour and … fortunately you and I Elle have one!
