Lanzarote news | Airport strike announced
The trade union for Swissport Handling at Lanzarote’s airport, has announced strike action which kicks in on Sunday October 18 and will be repeated on 20, 22, 25, 27 and 29 October 2015.
The union (CCOO) added that, if Swissport Handling Lanzarote UTE does not have a change of heart – an ongoing strike will begin on November 1.
CCOO has announced its members’ displeasure and frustration at Swissport’s “repeated breaches” of agreements and action is now unavoidable.
The union had filed strike notice on October 6, after Swissport had breached the agreement reached last year requiring open negotiations including any increase in working activity. The union met with Swissport management on October 9 to attempt a resolution, but the meeting ended with no agreement reached to stop the strike.
According to Swissport Handling Lanzarote UTE’s official website, the company employs 150 people and has been in operation since 2007. They are currently responsible for the following services at Lanzarote airport.
The strike will affect the following airlines flying into Lanzarote airport, serviced by Swissport. If you have flights booked on those days, Spain Buddy recommends you liaise directly with your holiday company for advice.
