Jonny Peyton – Interview
Jonny Peyton is a rugger loving dentist from Northern Ireland. After a period in valencia, he now lives in Torrevieja. If you’d like to be featured on the Spain Buddy website, follow the link after the article. Over to Jonny.
When did you move to Spain, and where from?
I moved to Valencia in 2012, and in July 2017 I moved to Torrevieja. I am originally from Northern Ireland; but have lived in Auckland, Glasgow and London as well
Who came with you?
I came here alone, but I knew some people living in Valencia
Where in Spain do you live now?
I have been living in Torrevieja since July this year
What things (apart from loved ones) do you miss from your country of birth?
I’d have to say the main thing I miss is Irish Banter, I don’t think you can ever have the same feeling elsewhere. I also miss Live rugby matches, but I Played rugby Valencia’s 2 biggest teams, so that helped me somewhat
Do you work? As what?
I do work yes, I am a General Dentist working in Carredent British dental clinic in Torrevieja
How are you with speaking Spanish?
I speak spanish and every year I get more and more comfortable with it. I’ve always made a conscious effort to learn the language and it made my time in Spain much more comfortable
If you could change one thing about Spain… what would that be?
I love Spain, obviously there are a few things that seem a bit backward compared to other countries, but in reality you can’t move to a country and expect it to be like your own. Uber would be a great help though!
What are the best things about living in Spain?
I’ve always been an outdoors person, so living in Spain suits me down to the ground. The ability to have a beer or a coffee outside no matter what time of year is incredible. You just can’t beat the climate
What are your favourite Spanish dishes?
I don’t know if I really have any. A homemade paella with plenty of meat is something I love, but apart from that I just love meat, no matter where it is from
What is the predominant nationality of your friends in Spain?
In Torrevieja I’ve really tried to keep my private life Spanish. So any friends I have outside of work are all Spanish. I really wanted to immerse myself in it
If you won the Euromilliones – would you still live where you currently are? Why? Why not?
I’d love to live for a while in Treasure Island in Florida, but it is very hard to have the dental qualification recognised there, so I guess if I won the money, I’d spend some time there. To be honest though I haven’t yet found my perfect place, I love to travel so I think my millions would take me on an epic adventure
If a movie was made about your life – who would play you? Why?
I’m gonna say… Jason Statham or Conor Mcgregor, I think they would make me look good. I’m never gonna be described as a pretty boy so need someone manly.
If you had to describe yourself as a cocktail… what would you be, and why?
Cuba libre.. simple, black and white.
Right – now is the chance to tell us all about your business/website/blog if you have one (or more of course).
So I work as I said in Carredent the British Dental Clinic next to Carrefour in Torrevieja. It’s an awesome dental clinic, with full English speaking staff, and some of us speak spanish too. The Owner Ian has had the clinic for 10 years now, and along with his wife Ally they have built up a very relaxed quality clinic. It’s been really enjoyable to work there and the patients get excellent quality care there in all aspects of Dentistry from simple white fillings to tooth whitening and crowns etc. My next step is to focus on learning about Dental implants placaement and surgery to offer more services to our patients.
