Expat Interview Dec No 5. Heidi Wagoner
This week we hear from Heidi Wagoner, a fellow blogger and a lover of all things Spain. We’ve been reading Heidi’s blog for a while, so it’s nice to find out a little more about what makes this Mum of two tick. Enjoy!
When did you move to Spain, and where from?
We moved from North Carolina, USA in August 2012.
Who came with you?
My hubby, Alan and 2 kids Lars and Anya. They are now 11 and 9 years old.
Where in Spain do you live now?
We live in the picture perfect town of Almuñécar along Costa Tropical.
Do you work? As what?
Well, we work quite a bit on our blog and just published 2 eBooks, but we don’t have a “paid” job.
How are you with speaking Spanish?
Our kids are now fluent and we are lagging behind. We can communicate fairly well with daily life, but when it comes to hanging out at birthday parties it is tough to hold our own for 3-4 hours.
If you could change one thing about Spain… what would that be?
We love Spain! I wouldn’t change a thing as it wouldn’t be Spain.
What is the best thing about living in Spain?
Hands down the people are wonderful and we love having so much history and culture just out our front door.
What is your favourite Spanish dish?
Don’t laugh, but Zumo! You can’t beat fresh OJ. We aren’t big foodies and love love love Mexican food, so Spanish food isn’t really our favorite. I know we live on the Med and we aren’t seafood eaters, so that may be part of the problem. We do like a good migas and fresh produce.
What is the predominant nationality of your friends in Spain?
A wide mix of Spanish, British, Dutch and now 2 other Americans.
If you won the Euromilliones – would you still live where you currently are?
You bet! For a while. We plan to move on to Southeast Asia this summer, so we would stick to the same plan.
If a movie was made about your life – who would play you?
I’d let Gwyneth Paltrow play me. We look nothing alike, but she would be good.
If you had to describe yourself as a sandwich filling… what would you be?
Peanut Butter. Super sweet, a little nutty and the glue that holds it all together.
Right – now is the chance to tell us all about your business/website/blog if you have one (or more of course). Go for your life!
We run the popular travel blog Wagoners Abroad. We have had the best time interacting and meeting new people via our blog. We quit our jobs, sold everything and moved to Spain in Aug 2012. We are living off of some investments and trying to make it last as long as we can.
We share it all, the good the bad, the ugly and the odd. We shared how we decided to be “naturists” for a day. We documented every detail of or 6 week European Summer Road Trip. Our budget is all exposed for your viewing. This family of 4 lives comfortably off of $3000 UDS per month.
We have just published 2 eBooks “Live in Spain – Resident Visa Application Tips and Tricks” as well as “Let the kids Cook! – Inspired by Kids for Kids”. We also are building a website on our little town http://almunecarinfo.com. It is a work in progress, but this is the work we do.
We hope to inspire others to live their dream. Don’t be afraid to step out of that comfort zone. The kids are doing great in Spanish public school and are loving our Spanish life.
