Everybody needs good neighbours

Maria Jimenez Cifuentes, Carmen Nestares, Antonio Manuel Pavón Salas, Francisco Jesús García Estudillo and Manuel Fernández La-Chica have been awarded the title “Exemplary Neighbor”, an award that has been handed out for three years by the Department of Citizenship in the City of Granada.

Everybody needs good neighboursThe winners received their awards, a framed certificate and a flag of Granada in a decorative boxin a ceremony chaired by the mayor, José Torres Hurtado. The awards presentation took place at a packed plenary hall.

A sextet, consisting of four voices and piano, closed the ceremony with the performance of 18 waltzes by Johannes Brahms.

The winners have been distinguished, according to the judges, for the good practice of peaceful coexistence, respect for people and the promotion of citizenship, solidarity, tolerance and commitment to the work of community life. The jury was comprised of various councilors, the Ombudsman and neighborhood representatives.

The proponents stressed the background and personal qualities of their respective designees, the implications in the daily life of their neighborhoods and for being fine examples of citizenship in the search for solutions to general problems and for their neighbours

The mayor, after congratulating the winners, praised “the quiet work of the thousands of citizens of Granada. There are many deserving of these awards and the affection of their neighbors.”
