Book review: DK’s Spanish-English Visual Dictionary
Like the DK Travel books, this one is a manageable size and would fit easily into most handbags, travel bags and glove compartments.
What really sets this book apart, in our opinion, is the vast number of images (there must be thousands of them) and 10000 words.
The book covers all the usual subjects of course, but it also covers a plethora of other useful topics too!
Since the book arrived a few days ago, I have been dipping into it at least once per day and have yet to be disappointed. Everything I have needed, or been curious about, has been included.
The top level subjects are:
- Eating Out
- and Reference
Within each category are dozens of sub-categories meaning that almost nothing is omitted.
But that’s not all. If you purchase the book, you will also receive free access to the audio app that is available for most smartphones and devices, and which you can then always carry with you. This enables you to listen to the words as they should be pronounced.
This is not a book to learn Spanish grammar; it is what it is… a dictionary. But it just so happens to be laid out beautifully and adds a much more visual element than we’ve seen in other books.
Would I recommend purchasing this book? Absolutely! Do I think it’s the best book of its type? Well it’s certainly the best I’ve seen – and I’ve seen a lot!!
This is a great way to improve your Spanish vocabulary alongside your Spanish grammar lessons and already I am picking up extra words.
