The theme for this years birthday party was sports and pastimes. And boy wasn’t there a selection! There were cyclists, footballers, wine addicts, rock ‘n’ roll dancers, walkers and more. The class members took part in a parade to display their creations. The was judged by bar manager Ryan Oliver, who was happy to help in his usual affable style. Three of the class members were awarded prizes. First of the winners was Sue Finchin, second was Margaret Tapp and the third place went to Maureen Thompson. The winners received bottles of cava and wine.
In addition, all dances throughout the afternoon were set to music that represented a sport or a pastime. Such music included “Sailing By” (The famous theme tune to the weather forecast on B.B.C Radio 4) and “Something in the Water” (Fishing). In total 15 sports or pastimes were represented in the music performed to by class members. There was even a special egg and spoon competition which meant that a version of the Line Dance “Lemon Tree” had to be performed to the music “Teddy Bears Picnic.”
There was also a raffle because the group continues to support F.A.C.E. (Fundraising in Arboleas, Caring for Everyone) for another year. €70-80 was raised at this event and along with monies which will raised at future events, it will be presented to F.A.C.E. at the end of its fundraising season. The Line Dance group have been avid supporters of F.A.C.E. since the group’s inception.
Finally the Line Dance Group enjoyed a sumptuous buffet, prepared by bar chefs Collis and Alex. There were mussels, mushrooms, chicken, scampi king prawns and many other food items that just seemed to keep tumbling  out of the bar’s kitchen doors! All of this was followed by a traditional birthday cake. Oliver’s Bar continues to get rave reviews for its food – and the line dancing group was only too happy to enjoy their feed.
Eleanor and Gilly would like to thank all the class members for their support over the last seven years and especially on the class’ 7th birthday. They would also like to thank everyone involved at Oliver’s Bar for the superb food and service.
